We love to find lesser-known places of dramatic natural beauty, and McCloud fits the bill. This RV park sits near the base of spectacular Mount Shasta, adjacent to Shasta-Trinity National Forest, and there's world-class Trout & Steelhead fishing nearby. The park is immaculate, with rolling green lawns, towering trees, 2 trout ponds and a babbling brook running right through. The park-like setting is very clean and quiet, with large sites and choice of partial or full hook-ups (30 and 50-amp) or grassy tent campsites along the forest. They also have really nice luxury camping cabins for the times when you don't have the RV with you. The park staff was extremely friendly and helpful, and the Wi-Fi worked great. We would definitely stay here again.

This campground is in a really great environment, tucked into tall pine trees and directly along Hat Creek. The trout fishing is great right in the park, with lots of people catching their dinner just a few feet from their RVs. We took a short hike on the trails behind the park, right up onto the Pacific Crest Trail, and found a great viewpoint overlooking Mount Lassen in nearby Lassen Volcanic National Park. The staff was incredibly friendly and made us feel right at home. There are lots of cabins too, which looked really cozy, along with RV sites with their own horse stalls so that people can bring their horses along to ride on the trails. It was nice to find a forested campground that had lots of really big sites, with plenty of room for our large RV. Everything was clean, the Wi-Fi worked well, and we had a great meal in the cafe too. It's pretty remote here, so having a place to eat, along with a large convenience / camp store was handy. Great place for a peaceful getaway.

We parked here with our windshield hanging directly over the Alsea Bay. By providing hook-ups on BOTH sides of the sites, they allow not only back-in parking, but nose-in as well. This allows both RVs and 5th wheels to park with the fantastic view filling the windshield. In nearly 7 years of full-time RVing, we have never seen an RV park quite like this... and we mean that in the very best way. Instead of just providing paved streets, or paved patios, or paved parking pads, this park has all three... in brand new solid concrete. That may sound cold at first, but the effect of having everything being concrete (with nice plantings between and around the sites) it that everything is immaculately clean. The bay here supposedly has some of the best Dungeness crabbing in Oregon, and judging by the number of people hauling in large catches, it must be the case. The park rents out motorboats, and also has a launch ramp for people who bring their own boats with them. There's also a large gift shop and convenience store, brand new bathrooms (with granite showers) and the newest, cleanest, most beautiful laundry room we've ever seen anywhere. This is a top-notch stop on the Oregon coast.

While not particularly fancy, this was a very pleasant and convenient place to stay for a few days while visiting nearby Yoho National Park. It was peaceful and quiet with grass/dirt sites that did the job well enough. The owners seem to live on site and were very pleasant when we checked in. We have a 43' motorhome, and even though the sites are pull-through, making the turn to get into any of them can be pretty tight due to the trees separating each site (retired bus driver here, so it wasn't me). We are Passport America members, so we got the 1/2 price rate, which was a good bargain. We would definitely stay here again, since it's the best deal going if you're a PA member - even cheaper than the provincial parks, but with full hook-ups.

After a terrific visit two years ago, we said we'd be back, and we meant it! Janet & Tim, the park's owners, are some of the nicest people we've met in over 6 years of full-time RV'ing. They keep their RV park immaculately clean, the spaces are all large and level, and they offer free Wi-Fi (with good signal throughout the park). Anytime you need anything at all, Janet or Tim are there to help. They've obviously spent a lot of time and effort making things even better since we were last there, with a brand new laundry room and immaculate bath and shower house. This is one of the nicest parks we've found anywhere... great hosts, nice facilities, beautiful landscaping, creek running right through, a peaceful and quiet setting, and lots to do in the area. We're sure to be back yet again, since we really do feel like family now.

THE GOOD: The park is very new and the main building (which houses the office, laundry room, bathrooms/showers, and a B&B upstairs) is very nice. They keep the bathrooms/showers reasonably clean and all of the machines in the laundry room are very new. They offer free WiFi that has good signal coverage throughout the park and is usually quite fast. The RV park is associated with, and right next door to, the Royalwood Golf course, so if you're a golfer, you can't beat the convenience. The sites are reasonably sized, with bushes planted to try and create some privacy. THE BAD: There's little to no pavement, so the park is mostly a large gravel lot. In the dry summer months, it gets pretty dusty. The park is also right along TransCanada 1, so it can be a little noisy in the sites near the front of the park. Although the sites are reasonably sized, there are areas of the park where there isn't enough space between opposing rows of sites... so maneuvering a large motorhome/5th wheel into some spaces can be a challenge if there are too many other large vehicles in the same area. While they have attempted to create privacy with plantings, they only do it between every other site... so there's SOME privacy on one side of your space, but none on the other.

The location is superb... towering pines, great topography, forested mountains, close to the most spectacular park in the world. The cabins are to die for... we've never seen better lodging of its type anywhere (we didn't stay in one, but the manager showed us a couple since we were interested in seeing them for a return visit). The park is large with lots of varied areas, and the sites were comfortably level and sized, with steady voltage from the pedestal, great water (very clear ice cubes), top-notch WiFi, and a great store on-site. It's a solid "10". We love the great outdoors, dramatic natural beauty, and off-the-beaten-path places, and Yosemite Pines was about as good as it gets from our point of view.

We were looking for a place close to Yosemite National Park where we could have full hookups and be close to "civilization", while still having more of a "camping experience" (we hate RV parks that are giant asphalt lots). High Sierra fit the bill perfectly. The park is very nice, with some shaded, some sun sites. The Fresno River runs right through the park, so you even have your choice of "riverside" sites where you can nose into the site and have a view out your windshield of the river. We liked how close the park is to Yosemite... we could easily do day trips into the park. Oakhurst is a good size town, with lots of services, restaurants, shops, and other amenities to choose from, without being too big. All of the staff went out of their way to be friendly and courteous and were very knowledgeable about the area, things to do, etc. We would absolutely stay here again and recommend it to anyone who's looking to experience Yosemite National Park without all the hassles (you don't need to reserve five months in advance to have a shot at a site that will fit anything bigger than a tent!).

This is basically a big parking lot, where the spaces are kind of tight. Maneuvering and parking space for your tow car is very limited if your RV is long. Sitting directly on the Pacific Coast Highway meant there was a lot of road noise, but we reserved one of the more expensive sites on the ocean side for an extra $10/night, which meant our bedroom (at the rear of the RV) faced the beach and the ocean, so it wasn't too bad. You can't beat the proximity to the beach, as you are literally right on it. The campground host was very nice and seemed really dedicated to being helpful. We'd stay here again.

If you haven't actually stood beside a California Redwood, you will be overwhelmed by these incredible trees. The Redwoods RV Resort is nestled into a fantastic Redwood grove, just minutes from Redwood National Park and the spectacular Northern California Coast. We stayed here in our RV about 6 years ago, when it was named "Ramblin' Rose RV Resort" and just returned again. The resort is under new management, and it's obvious that they've spent a great deal of time and money on major renovations. The place is fantastic... much nicer than our last time here. Everything is clean and new, including the Wi-Fi and cable TV. Sites are large, level and secluded, with lots of space, trees, and ferns between us and our neighbors. They have brand new 50-amp full-hook-up sites, with room for any size RV (ours is 43' long, so that's important to us). The Redwoods tower overhead, making campsites really feel like part of the forest. There is also a large, open, grassy area in the middle of the resort, making for a nice mix of forested and pastoral environments. There are also lots of secluded, wooded tent sites, plus modern (and very luxurious) cabins with nice covered decks. Since this is an area we'd love to share with our families, the cabins would be perfect for us to host family without them having to stay on the RV or in a tent. The manager was nice enough to show us inside one. We will definitely come back to this park any time we visit Northern California's Redwood Forest.

What a terrific find. Canyon Lake is so beautiful — the only park we've ever stayed at with their own private island on their own large private lake. We really enjoyed strolling out to relax under the gazebo on the island, and paddling around in the resort's (free) paddle boats. Plus, the Texas-shaped swimming pool and whirlpool spa directly overlook the lake. The whole place is neat and clean and the staff was really nice in helping us decide the best local places to visit (there's lots to choose from). We did great day trips to the coast, and to Mexico. We'd come back here again in a minute.

What a find! The sites are very large and level, with nice clean gravel. The entire park is immaculately maintained. And the management are incredibly friendly and helpful. We stayed here for 5 nights and wish we could have stayed longer. There's so much to do in the area, and Capitol West is so conveniently located, that we still had tons of things we wanted to do. We're definitely planning on coming back to this gem of a park.

Tradewinds is a nice park, convenient to a lot of things in the Bay Area. The sites were a little tight/narrow, and being so close to the highway (while convenient for touring around) meant that there was a bit of highway noise. Overall, though, the facilities were neat, clean, and well maintained.

Quail Trails is a beautiful park, nestled among the trees in a spectacular part of the world. All the sites are pull-throughs, and all are wonderfully shaded by towering pine and oak trees. We really enjoyed our stay, and everyone at the park (staff and other guests) were warm and friendly. We had perfect weather while we were there (in November) and got to explore the area. Lots to see and do here.

We could hardly believe how rustic and beautiful Camp Williams was, considering it is within easy reach of a major metropolitan area - L.A.! It's nestled in a canyon formed by the San Gabriel Mountains, and the East Fork of the San Gabriel River runs right through the camp. RV sites are nestled among the trees for cool shade during the summer months, but have a beautiful view of the river. Tent sites are, literally, right along the banks. You can fish right from your tent! The Café offers a great place to grab a delicious meal, from a pancakes & eggs breakfast to a juicy hamburger so you can take a break from cooking. We had a great time here, and look forward to visiting again soon!

We really enjoyed our stay at Ponderosa. First of all, the staff were REALLY friendly, and were always available to help out with whatever we needed. They were especially knowledgeable about all the things there are to do in the area (and there's LOTS!). They were even able to help us get reservations and tickets for several area activities we were interested in (the Rodeo, rafting, and the tram tour). The park itself is really nice. They have back-ins, pull-throughs, tenting sites, cabins, and even TiPis! Everything is very well maintained and clean. Our site was a pull-through with plenty of room for our 43' RV and tow car. I read several of the reviews here that complained about the WiFi access, but when we were there they had just completed an upgrade of the system (apparently, they listen to their customers!) and we had really good, strong signal. And our site was near the back of the park. We had a really great time, and will definitely stay here again.

Many sites are very nose-low — lots of rigs had their front wheels jacked up so high off the ground that front-door entry practically required a ladder. This is the only park we’ve ever seen that demands that everyone use wooden planks under the jacks — they provide the wood, but you have to lug the filthy stuff to your site in your car or RV. There is a steep hill with tall trees on the southeast side of the park, preventing satellite dish use at many sites, relegating you to the crummy cable service, and preventing those with internet satellite from using it, then having to pay for the very expensive Wi-Fi. At these sky-high camping prices, you’d at least expect free Wi-Fi… or maybe a pool? Our biggest complaint was with the attitude and the “rules.” The guy in the office in the cowboy hat is surely the rudest RV park employee we have ever encountered in our 4 1/2 years of full-timing. We had a potential family emergency arise, and asked about RV storage while we flew home for a week or two. We were told that storage was available, but only for those going on cruises. When we told them we might have a family emergency, we were told that storage would not be allowed, since it might “drag on for a while!” There’s compassion and customer-service for you. In the ensuing near-panic to find a storage spot, we left the park in the car… you guessed it… driving over the 8.5 MPH limit. Yes, we were wrong to be driving too fast, but the response to our mistake was appalling. We came home to find a bright-red form letter (which they obviously use to keep their “guests” in line) taped to our door, notifying us in large print that we had been caught speeding, and that they could throw us out of the park without a refund. This is the first time we have ever posted such a negative review here, but we felt that maybe the reason they feel it’s OK to be rude to their customers is because they are so busy. Maybe if they lose a little business, they will learn the importance of treating their customers with a little more respect. Next time we visit Seattle, we’ll find a park that knows how to treat people. We will never go back to this one.

We stopped in for a few nights... and ended up spending 5. The park is clean and well-maintained. Dale & Veida (the owners) couldn't be nicer. They really made us feel at home, and gave us great advice about all of the things to do here. We never knew that the Rawlins, WY area was so interesting. We went for a nice hike in the hills right behind the campground. Took a long, scenic drive through the Medicine Bow forest. Toured the historic Old Wyoming State Penitentiary. And strolled along the beautiful North Platte River. Do yourself a favor and stay here; plan for a few nights... you'll find plenty to do. You won't regret it.

A great place to use as home base to explore the area (Craters of the Moon National Monument, Idaho National Labs, etc). The sites are level, gravel pull-throughs (and there are separate tenting sites, too) that are really far apart... it's like having your own lawn. All the facilities are well-maintained and clean. And there's a cafe on site for breakfast and dinner (overnight guests get a free pancake & eggs breakfast!). The owners, Dave & Bonnie, are really great - very friendly, very helpful, and a lot of fun.

We loved this park! Stayed here on our way north to Canada, and we'll be back again! The park itself is really cute, with the Blacktail Creek running right through the middle of it! Spaces are large, there's nice grass between sites, and large shade trees keep you cool, even on hot summer days (don't worry, there are sites with good southern views for satellite access, too!) The owners, Tim & Janet, are fantastic. Very friendly, very helpful (they'll help arrange whatever kind of repairs/services you could need), and LOTS of fun! They really made us feel at home and like we were part of the family. If you're going anywhere near Dillon... stay here. You won't regret it.

What a beautiful spot. It was nice to have a lake in the midst of the desert! Beautiful RV Resort. The roads are really wide, which made if very easy to maneuver into our site. The sites are all very wide, too, and are perfectly level, with clean gravel, a large concrete patio, and your choice of 20/30/50 amp electric. All of the amenities (pool, spa, rec hall, pool tables, card room, library, computers, etc.) were well-maintained and clean. And Phyllis & Phill (the park managers) and all of the staff were friendly and very helpful. We stayed for a week... but would love to come back here and spend a winter season!

Beautiful pool and natural hot mineral spas (3 - each one at a different temperature) in a comfortable, cozy, and friendly park. Lots to do in the area, but the park is quiet and remote. Wide spaces that are very private (hedges separate many spaces) with nice concrete patios. Many sites are designed for mobile homes, but have RV hookups, so they're very large for motorhomes. Highly recommend this park after staying for 2 weeks.

An immaculately clean & friendly park. The park managers, John and Mary, are really nice and obviously take great pride in their park. They've thought of just about everything - there's even an iron and ironing board in the laundry room! The sites are all gravel, they are very wide and level, and can accomodate large rigs with lots of slides. We loved our site - we had views of the Superstition Mountains from our windshield.

A beautiful park with a HUGE recreation hall, gorgeous pool & spa, and beautifully landscaped, mature plantings. Primarily a manufactured home resort, but the RV spaces are nice and are mostly separate from the permanent homes. Would be a great place to spend the winter season... there appears to be lots to do on their activities calendar - both onsite and as tours/trips (we were there a bit late in the season to take advantage, though). And Apache Junction is very close to lots of recreational, shopping, and leisure activities, too. Oh... and we got to take lots of pictures of a pair of baby owls! There's an owl's nest in a palm tree onsite and the babies were SO CUTE! The managers said the owl returns every year.

We don't normally stay in parks that are both RV and Mobile Home parks. But while in Casa Grande last year, we drove past this place and poked our heads in to check it out for a return visit. We stayed for about a week this year, and let me say Cottonwood Cove has changed our minds! We loved it! The clean, level, gravel sites are huge (they're designed for a mobile home, so an RV is no problem! ) with wide, long patios on one side and a separate driveway on the other. The streets are also very wide and it was no problem getting our 43' coach (with tag) in or out of the space. The pool area was beautiful, the park managers (on site) were very nice, and the park is full of large shade trees and mature plantings. How often do you get to stay in the desert in a space in the shade?!? We'd definitely stay here again.

We loved this park... especially the citrus trees (you're encouraged to pick and eat all you can of the lemons, oranges, grapefruit and tangerines). Spent the winter from Dec 2006 through April 2007 and really enjoyed it. Quiet park with nice people. Emily, Rita, and Karen (in the front office) were really nice and very fun. Loved the fact that the park was on the outskirts of Phoenix: nice and quiet, but a short drive to the activities/culture of downtown.

Great park with spectacular views of (and easy access to hiking in) Picacho Peak. Had a really nice, very wide, pull-through site that afforded us a daily view of the peak right out our windshield. The staff were very helpful and friendly, the park was very clean and neat, and we truly enjoyed our stay. The only item to knock them for is being a bit close to Interstate 10. You can hear the highway, but it was not overly loud.
